In the heart of Te Anau, gateway to Fiordland National Park

The Cinema Suites are perfectly positioned in central Te Anau, the doorstep to the majestic Fiordland National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its ancient beech forests, dramatic mountains, and pristine lakes, rivers, and waterfalls.

The suites sit above the Fiordland Cinema, purpose-built to showcase the acclaimed short film Ata Whenua – Shadowland, an awe-inspiring 32-minute journey through Fiordland’s untouched wilderness.

Te Anau

Te Anau is a vibrant Southland town known for its warm hospitality and easy access to some of New Zealand’s most iconic wilderness experiences. It’s the last stop before the Milford Road and a base for many of the country’s Great Walks, including the Kepler and Milford Tracks.

Within walking distance of the suites, you’ll find a variety of cafes, restaurants, and bars — including the Black Dog Bar, just steps away. This stylish lounge features local wines, craft beers, and ciders, making it the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring or a screening at the adjacent cinema.

Milford Sound

Often described as the eighth wonder of the world, Milford Sound is the most iconic of Fiordland’s dramatic fiords. Towering peaks and sheer cliffs plunge into the deep waters below, and when it rains (which it often does), countless waterfalls appear, streaming down the rock faces.

While many visitors take a scenic coach trip to Milford, the most unforgettable way to experience its grandeur is by air. We recommend Fiordland Helicopters, who offer breathtaking flights through valleys of native forest and alpine terrain before descending into the Milford Sound township. From there, you can enjoy a cruise through the fiord before returning to Te Anau.
